Praise
The poems in … are, quite simply, lovely. His poems capture our real world in language that is sensuous and offered in just-right rhythms—his lines are melodic, with internal rhymes and a cadence reminiscent of the poems of another physician-poet, William Carlos Williams. In this book, Domen gives us beautifully “Plaintive Music,” right-on imagery, and touches of mystery that both intrigue and satisfy. A collection to be read, and reread many times. – Cortney Davis

Found Poem: A Rainy Day
—for Charles Burchfield (1893-1967)
The moist air holds the smoke
prisoner and the breeze carries
it idly about mingling it
with its own steamy breath
until we cannot tell which is which;
thoughts and movements are softened
an absence of sunlight
bird and insect songs
all things swell –
the earth, plants, wood
and even iron –
we must expand like the leaves.
