David A. Petreman has been invited by the SECH, the Society of Chilean Writers from Santiago, Chile, to participate in an International Writers Congress called “Chile Has the Word: Latin America in the Heart”, to be held the first week of November, 2007. He is to give a talk on “Identity and Creation” as part of a round-table discussion and has also been asked to give a poetry reading from his book, “Luz de vela en Quintero” (Dos Madres Press), which will be held in the School of Journalism at the University of Chile. Some of Latin America’s best known writers have confirmed their participation in the Congress, among them, Ernesto Cardenal (Poet Laureate and former Minister of Culture in Nicaragua) and Mario Benedetti from Uruguay. A number of award-winning Chilean poets will also participate in the Congress.
